We carry out our mission statement of improving peoples’ lives by investing in specific projects, usually in partnership with local NGO’s, CBO’s (non-governmental organizations, community-based organizations) or similar groups or individuals that form part of our extensive local contact network. Through conducting due diligence on and working with local, grass roots, organizations and individuals, FoS can channel help directly to where it’s needed.
Type of projects undertaken
FoS has a broad humanitarian remit so projects be varied. To date we have focused particularly on education, livelihood support and rehabilitation, through a number of different projects in each category (see PROJECTS).
Encouraging self-reliance
By working through local bodies, donations will be perceived by the benefactor to have originated locally - thereby reducing the dependency on foreign aid and encouraging self reliance. Where possible we try to guarantee the financial sustainability of projects, and therefore reduce dependency on aid, by helping the recipients of funding become financially self-sufficient.
Low profile
FoS does not advertise itself or its projects with flags, banners, signs or large vehicles. A low profile is, we believe, the best way to ensure the effectiveness of our projects, a key element of which must always be to reduce dependence on any, particularly foreign, aid.
